Is that a hint of sheer pink I see? Yes, folks. Yes it is.

Party planning is sorta my jam and I'm kinda good at it. (Wink.) Seriously though, I think it's important to celebrate the people you love! Being able to make someone feel special is a gift.

Our son's birthdays are 2 weeks apart and we go all out for one joint party. (Hoping to get away with that for as long as I can!) Our January birthday babies had asked for a pool party for quite some time, so this past summer we celebrated their half-birthdays poolside, in shark-infested waters, with family and friends. It was JAWSOME! I should blog about that, too! Anyway, Kohen (7), and I made a huge 15' balloon arch for their party and it was FINTASTIC! Super festive and fun!

So, fast forward to last week. My sister-in-law, Jessica, asked me to come in studio to make a balloon garland for a special client's 1st Birthday Party. Umm, of course! I'd love to! I mean, how could you not contribute to a birthday party for this little beauty? If you've ever had your pics done with Jessica Reeves Photography, you may have met Jessica's assistant, Misty, the mother of this precious birthday girl.

While my SIL worked her incredible photography skills, we put together a Balloon Garland Tutorial. It's way too easy, quick, and fun to make! Balloon Garlands are a party decor statement piece! Plus, what kid doesn't LOVE BALLOONS?

Supplies:
  • Balloons (I recommend 4 balloons per foot of garland.)
  • Twine (I'll explain why twine is important in Step 3.)
  • Scissors
  • Balloon Inflator (You can use your kids like I did for their party, or a manual pump, or an electric inflator pump seen in this tutorial.)
  • 2 Command Hooks
Step 1:
Choose your balloons! There are so many fun colors and designs on the market! I like to estimate 4 balloons per foot of garland. So, a 10' garland would require 40 balloons.

Step 2:
Blow up the balloons. You can inflate your balloons as early as 5 days prior to the event. Feel free to make them different sizes for added fun. Just know as you blow up the balloons - Too big and your balloons have a higher tendency to pop. Too small and they could deflate before the party.

 Step 3:
Know your length and cut your twine. This is your main line. Make sure to take into account an additional 3 feet on both sides for hanging purposes. Example - If you want a 10' garland, cut your piece of twine 16'. You can use any material that allows you to adjust the location of the balloons easily. Twine works great! I like twine because it allows you to slide the balloons across your main line. There's no need to untie if you don't like the placement. You can group the balloons closer or spread them apart if you're planning to add florals or greenery to your garland.

Step 4:
Loosely tie the ends of your twine to two chair backs, or anything sturdy around the room. You're basically making a tight rope that you'll secure your balloons to.

Step 5:
Tie the ends of 2 balloons together, until all balloons have been paired. I like to alternate colors.

Step 6:
From your roll of twine, cut yourself several 12'' strands. Using a 12" strand, tie 2 sets of balloons together to create a group of 4. Continue until all balloons have been tied into bunches of 4. If you have an extra set of 2, that's ok. Go ahead and tie a piece of twine to the end of those balloons as well.

Step 7:
Attach each set of balloons to your main line of twine. Just tie it right on. You can space them out however you like because you can always slide the balloon bunches together/apart if needed.

Step 8: Attach any additional florals or greenery with your twine.

Step 9: If you have any long pieces of twine visible where you attached your balloon bunches, you can trim it.

Step 10: Hang with Command Hooks.
